Clinical Space Arenula

Reception and consultation of demands from educators, parents, children and young people

Psychoanalysis offers the opportunity to knot – through speech – a specific bond, to renew the choices when reference points are unsteady. A meeting with a clinician is not always to be taken for granted for several reasons: economical, social and also because psychoanalysis appears as a new possibility, available in addition to traditional institutions and methods of treatment.

The Psychoanalytic Consultation Centre opened a new clinical centre in Rome, in Via Arenula 53. After preliminary consultations, when it is found appropriate, this initiative aims to create the conditions to start a psychoanalytic treatment with a clinician from the College of Psychoanalytic Clinic – Non-for-profit-organization.

The consultations are designed to receive children, parents dealing with problematic teenagers, as well as any person or institution dealing with situations of difficulty.

Presentation

Children and young people, often involve in their difficulties and in their symptoms the whole education system that takes care of them. Their families, but also their teachers and other adults who accompany them in their development, are implicated, in first person, in the crisis that could arise during transition times.

On these situations, it is important, for several reasons, not to delay the intervention that could be offered, this is because there is the risk that a little issue could transform into a broad problem in which different issues could get intertwined, which may make the original issue inextricable.

It has been seen, and children treatments are a testimony, that often the parents play an important role in the progress of cure. They are involved from the beginning since they make possible the conditions of the encounter between the clinician and the child, who couldn’t access the consultation alone and who wouldn’t have the means to fund the cost of the sessions. Frequently, and for several reasons, parents, who have an interest in the course of children therapy, wouldn’t find an interlocutor in those who treat the child. The parents then remain outside, excluded from a path in which they are often affected as much as, if not more than, the child that they accompany.

However, anyone (parents, teachers, therapists, clinicians) that face, from different positions, the child or young person’s psychic symptoms, such as; delays and difficulties in language development and learning, confusing recurrent thoughts, difficulty with manual skills, unmanageable tantrums and challenges, to name some of the most frequent symptoms, would find it extremely difficult to manage.

An intervention, therefore, that takes into consideration the difficulties that occur by addressing the issue from a deeper perspective. An intervention that does get occupied in adapting the person to the demands of the environment or the demands of the moment, but rather, starting from the suffering caused by the symptom, an intervention that introduces the possibility to knot – through speech – a specific bond, to renew the choices when reference points are unsteady.

A meeting with a clinician is not always to be taken for granted for several reasons: economical, social and also because psychoanalysis appears as a new possibility, available in addition to traditional institutions and methods of treatment.

After preliminary consultations, when it is found appropriate, this initiative aims to create the conditions to start a psychoanalytic treatment with a clinician from the College of Psychoanalytic Clinic – Non-for-profit-organization.

The Psychoanalytic Consultation Centre offers also the possibility to receive the parents of children who are been taken care by the clinicians at the centre, offering them a place for their orientation, easily accessible, (The meetings are held, by appointment, at the same time dedicated to child’s care) and that, by meeting a clinician would allow them to address the issues that are often behind the demand for the child. The centre also encourages the encounter with the therapist who is treating the child, that often, for various reasons, cannot be contacted by the parents as and how often they would like to.

Such consultations are designed to accommodate children, parents dealing with problematic teenagers, as well as any person or institution dealing with situations of difficulty.

The Centre is open daily and receives by appointment, through its service free of charge, those who request it, offering, depending on the situation, interventions “one by one”.

The Psychoanalytic Consultation Centre of the College of Psychoanalytic Clinic – Non-for-profit-organization, is an initiative proposed by some members of Praxis–FCL in Italy, and it is based under the perspective of the International of Forums and the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forums of the Lacanian Field [EPFCL] and the Collège Clinique de Paris
